Veinlite 220 was Translite's first transillumination device. It consisted of a halogen light source 220V / 150 watts and the fiber optic cable with the horseshoe-shaped light ring with an inner diameter of 33 mm.
Optionally, a fiber optic cable with a smaller light ring with an 18 mm internal diameter was also available for venous access in children and for sclerotherapy of curved body surfaces such as shinbone edges and ankles.
A few hundred of these stand systems were sold outside the United States by 2015 and established the golden standard of transillumination technology for sclerotherapy, especially in Europe. Many of these durable devices are still in use.
In 2015, Veinlite 220 was then discontinued by Translite. The main reason for this was the incomparably greater market potential in the USA to facilitate access to the veins with the
cheaper portable handsets. Another reason was the possibility of bigger ones
Selling quantities of handheld devices directly and via web shops without great logistics effort. The increasingly complicated EU regulations for medical devices with a network connection from non-EU manufacturing were an additional reason in Europe to no longer offer the standing devices.
After the discontinuation of the Veinlite 220 halogen free-standing device in 2015, the search for a new free-standing device for the VL220 customers and prospective customers who did not like the handheld devices for various reasons began.
After several contacts at Medica, an OEM supplier for manufacturing in Europe was found who met our requirements.
We placed special emphasis on a wear-resistant fiber optic cable
with an easy-care flat light ring as the heart of the device.
The latest LED lighting technology is used for the light source instead of the halogen lamp.
This reduces the heat development and a quieter ventilation fan could be installed. The periodic renewal of the halogen lamp that was previously necessary is also eliminated. This successor system is fully compatible with the old VL220 stand systems. This means that the new fiber optic cable can also be used to replace worn cables on the VL220 device.
The first devices could then be delivered according to CE certification at the end of 2017.
A flexible fiber optic cable suspension for mounting on table tops up to 33 mm thick and an inexpensive equipment trolley are available as accessories.
